Joe's crib

Joe sleeps in this reflux bed---it's at an angle to help babies who have congestion or reflux sleep. We put him in the pack n play when we first brought him home. Big mistake. We were up every hour with Joe trying to calm him down. Then a friend offered to let us use her "nap nanny". Joe has slept through the night since.

Recently, though, I've been worrying about developing Joe's motor skills. In the bed, he does not get tummy time and has no interest in rolling over. So, we found this crib---and I love it---and now Joe can upgrade from his nap nanny to a bed and hopefully to more tummy time.

Because of Joe's breathing issues, it's recommended that he sleep on his tummy. Most babies sleep on their backs because of the risk of SIDS, but Pierre Robin babies sleep prone. Joe does not like being on his back, even in playtime.

Like I said, though, I love this crib.

When we were at the store, Rae climbed in and out of the display crib. But, I'm trying to give Joe a place to sleep, not Raeford-proofing everything, right? The problem with Raeford-proofing is that eventually he will learn how to defeat it. For example, the door knob covers---they are dismantled in my hallway and Rae can get into my bedroom and the bathroom (and the pantry, but he has not thought of that yet). Baby gates are another bygone safety feature. Rae can either undo the lock or just climb over it. So, one, it is impossible to Raeford-proof things, and two, I just liked this crib and its mattress.

So, yes, Raeford can climb into the crib with Joe.

Joe likes me. Joe likes Mr. Graff. Joe likes other people.
Joe LOVES Raeford.

Joe was on his tummy for almost forty minutes. Rae came and gave him hugs and kisses and talked to him. He danced and bounced and ran around like a monkey. Joe loved it.

So, I love the crib, but I'm going to move it away from the window.

My next goal is to train Joe to sleep on his tummy, so we can move him out of the reflux bed and into the boys' room. I can have my own room again! Someday soon.

Joe took his morning nap in his new crib.

I'm excited.

Maple Syrup Festival

We went to the Maple Syrup Festival @Cunningham Falls State Park today. The weather was *gorgeous* and the crowds not horrifying.  We star...
